Faru Faru LodgeFaru Faru is tucked behind a small, vegetated hill, overlooking a permanent waterhole and the tree-line of the Grumeti River. Outwardly the six stone, canvas and thatched suites have the air of a classic safari camp, yet the interiors are the ultimate in contemporary chic with panoramic glass windows to the front, mirrored room dividers and claw-foot bath with a view.

Faru Faru Lodge The DetailFaru Faru Lodge is built on a gently sloping hill above a beautiful waterhole and the Grumeti River. With 9 super luxury tented rooms, complete with virtually everything you could ever need (!) this lodge is the most luxurious of any camp in the Serengeti with a styled contemporary feel, The central areas are carefully constructed out of local stone and are cleverly designed to take advantage of the terraced side of the hill. A river-sand beach has been created for sunbathing, a fabulous swimming pool overlooks a productive waterhole and elevated viewing decks make perfect spots for surveying the rugged landscape beyond. The small size of the camp give it a truly intimate feel and allow for some excellent activities: dry season walks along the Grumeti River are a particular highlight of visits to Faru Faru. Throughout the migration months of June, July and August the camp can literally teem with game and in the dry season, after the great herds have departed for greener pastures in the north, the Grumeti draws in large concentrations of resident wildlife. Elephant, Cape Buffalo, giraffe, zebra, gazelle, impala and topi all seek life-sustaining water from the river. Even in places where the river runs dry, water flows just beneath the sand and many species dig to find it. Still others congregate around the remaining pools of the river. Because the animals gather here all through the year, Faru Faru offers a constantly changing and completely private wildlife spectacle.

The reserve is private meaning it is rare to see another vehicle whilst on safari making the whole Serengeti experience exclusive and authentic. Absolutely superb in the migration months and perfect out of these for a truly luxurious safari, Faru Faru as with all Grumei Reserve camps is actually a destination itself. It is a tough choice between here and Sabora. Faru is certainly more luxurious, where as Sabora has the plains and a unique feel in camp as with Sabora, this is one of the finest camps in Tanzania, but we are staying on the fence as to which is better!
