A standard Selous Zanzibar trip. There can be some good honeymoon deals here.
Previously known as Amara Selous, Azura Selous has become a transformed lodge under the luxury brand Azura. The accommodation is of a high standard, with the bonus of air conditioning (one of the only camps with this in Selous) and the rooms being constructed with both canvas and stone and looking out onto the Ruaha River.
Charming and exceptional value, Sunshine Hotel offers simple accommodation on one of the islands best beaches. Located up in Matemwe the hotel also gives guests easy access to Mnemba Island for the islands best diving and snorkelling. Overall a lovely little property that helps make an overall itinerary more affordable.
Great honeymoon option for those looking for a good value luxury camp and secluded beach resort.
The best beach lodge in east Africa! As a company we have explored the entire coast and there nowhere that gets near to Ras Kutani. It is ‘bare foot beach luxury’ at its best and comes at fantastic value. It is secluded, private and spectacularly beautiful. Team this with fantastic rooms, lovely food and great service and we have ourselves a champion of beach lodges.
High end Northern circuit focusing on the central plains, famous for cheetah, followed by the best value private island in Africa!
Machweo Retreat is the newest addition to Onsea House, its sister property. Onsea House is one of Arusha’s best little properties and Machweo retreat is right next door, replicating the same level of quality in service and rooms. The food here is exquisite and some of the best in east Africa.
Plantation Lodge is probably our favourite coffee plantation in the Ngorongoro Highlands. It’s tranquil, scenic and in a great spot for easy access to the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. The rooms are simple but luxurious and the food is particularly good as they make use of their fine organic vegetable garden. There are other great places such as Gibbs Farm in the area but we feel that Plantation is setting the highest standards at the moment.
Namiri Plains is a must to any cheetah enthusiast. The cheetah numbers here are vast and there’s plenty of everything else too. Being owned by Asilia, Namiri Plains will most certainly deliver a world class safari experience.
Fanjove is the most exciting new beach destinations in Tanzania in recent years - a superb beach and an absolute Robinson Crusoe experience.
Stunning beach-safari-beach of the Southern parks. Fantastic accommodation throughout and beach lodges focusing on getting away from the crowds.
Siwandu reigns supreme in our opinion. It has a fantastic location, great guides and gorgeous tents offering every luxury in a truly authentic style. Discreetly tucked amongst the palm trees on the banks of Lake Nzerakera, it has everything you could want in a safari holiday and is definitely our number one tented camp in the Selous.
Jongomero is an absolutely exceptional safari camp. It is one of our favourites in the whole of Tanzania, which is not a compliment we hand out easily. It is the most luxurious camp in the park as well as offering fantastic service, the most remote location and guiding so good it borders on genius. Jongomero really is a firm favourite and one we highly recommend.
A blockbuster of an itinerary. Finest lodges throughout, with safari time split between river crossings and a private reserve. Private island on the beach to end....
There are few luxury properties in and around Arusha, of all these the Arusha Coffee Lodge is the best. Owned and run by Elewana, this property maintains great levels of quality and service. Being located on a working coffee plantation allows a different sort of feel and air to your stay. A stay in Arusha would normally be a one night stop, at most, two. If you are looking for something a bit cheaper then Onsea House or Machweo Retreat would be our first choice and if they are full then Rivertrees is the next best option.
Without doubt one of the top ten hotels in the world. Perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and with views to die for; people come to Tanzania just to stay here. This is &Beyond’s flag ship property; quirky and something different from other properties on a northern itinerary. &Beyond call it ‘ Masaai meets Versaille’, we find it verging on over the top - but if you can afford it - you must stay here!
Singita Faru Faru is one of our very favourite lodges. Run by Singita, the lodge is the lovechild of Paul Tudor Jones (a billionaire who runs them as his playthings!) and Faru Faru can be counted as probably the best safari lodge Tanzania. One of three of their supreme properties (Sasakwa and Sabora being the others) it forms part of the private Grumeti Reserves, situated in the west of the Serengeti. Yet because it’s a private park you can night drive, horse-ride and walk. A modern interpretation of a classic safari lodge, it has intimacy, luxury and excellent guiding in spades.
Singita own some of the finest and most luxurious lodges in Africa; Singita Mara Tented Camp is the latest arrival opening in October 2012 on the banks of the Mara River.
Travel writers have often named Mnemba as one of the top beaches in the world, certainly in Africa. Mnemba is the ultimate definition of barefoot luxury, one of the few places where you can snorkel straight off the beach and onto pristine reef. Owned and run by &Beyond, the food and service is top class- however, all this does come an eye watering cost…
Horsriding is possible with this one! Best permanent camp for the river crossings and the a big hitter on Zanzibar with fantastic facilities.
The Manor is luxury defined. It pushes boundaries in terms of making that extra effort to make sure their guests are stress free and completely pampered. The stunning Ngorongoro Highlands surround The Manor and leave the guests in a permanent state of awe and tranquillity.
Lamai Serengeti is an absolutely fantastic lodge. It is of the highest quality and probably boasts the best service in the region. It sits upon the Kogakuria Kopje, with breathtaking views down onto the Lamai wedge. It is like a breath of fresh air when compared to a lot of luxurious safari camps with its quirky style and incredible location.
Baraza is one of the most luxurious hotels on Zanzibar. It transcends traditional expectations of a beach hotel and provides a phenomenal service that offers its guests every creature comfort and more! It boasts one of the finest beaches on the island and combines this with some incredible facilities. You are in very safe hands with this top end beach resort.
Chimp trekking in the West of Tanzania is the focus here; while stopping at the best two lodges in the South on the way there. This is a very good safari trip, nicely away from the crowds.
Beho Beho has been blessed with one of the most sublime views in the Selous game reserve. It provides its guests with every luxury and more, whilst over looking a huge area of true wilderness. The lodge consists of 9 stone bandas (the panoramic view comes free) that are not left wanting in terms of providing their guests with every comfort possible. The food, guiding and service are all of the very highest standard.
Greystoke is one of the best lodges in Africa, there is really nowhere else like it and the game experience is very different – trekking in the Mahale Mountains for Chimpanzees! Lake Tanganyika is an ancient lake and the second largest by volume in the world. The main thatched building sits on the white beach and the 6 bandas are hidden into the edge of the undergrowth with incredible views out onto the water. It’s not cheap but if you have travelled all this way then you simply must stay at this lodge.
Magnificent beach lodges sandwich a short safari in one of the best lodges in the Selous. This is a classy trip.
Sand Rivers Selous is an adventurous barefoot luxury lodge in the quieter area of the Selous Game Reserve. Owned by Nomad Tanzania, who have camps in pretty much every park in Tanzania, this is one of their top properties and it’s great for those seeking adventure in the wilderness, with lots of walking safari, excellent fly camping and boating up to Steiglers Gorge.
