Elsa’s KopjeMost possibly one of the most famous lodges in East Africa, Elsa’s Kopje was originally made famous through its link with George and Joy Adamson and their lions, in particular Elsa. This rocky outcrop now hosts a collection of luxury cottages that are dotted amongst its crags and offer top end luxury with both fantastic views and great game viewing.

This history is still present in the reception area where paintings and photos can be seen showing the lodge’s famous namesake. Today the kopje hosts what must be one of the top 5 lodges in east Africa featuring 9 unique and carefully thought out rooms that mould around the rock face. All with completely a different feel and layout, they all have one thing in common….a stunning view out to the flat Meru National Park that surrounds. This is certainly one of Africa’s best views. At the top of the rock, the main area has been cleverly designed to feature the beautiful infinity pool as the focal point surrounded by the lounge and dining areas. This means that, from anywhere you look you can see the pool and the amazing view. Elsa’s Kopje – Our viewThe most significant feature of Elsa’s, apart from the views that stretch for years and the perfect tranquility, is the staff and their attitude in the camp. The camp makes a point of growing most of its own produce and so boasts a wonderful selection of fresh vegetables with which to cook. It is this attention and care that makes this lodge what it is. Form a gaming point of view, it is true that Meru is still yet to rank up with the Mara…but it is certainly getting better and better as the years go by and it is still mentioned as a favourite by the “old hands” who can be found guiding throughout Kenya. A few days in this lodge is a real treat.
