Lemala Serengeti Camp - Our View

Lemala Ndutu/Serengeti is a great new mobile camp and offers some of the best value of all the mobile camps in the Serengeti. There are drawbacks however, the camp does not move into the Western Corridor so June migration viewing (including Grumeti river crossings) is not possible. The location in the North is stunning and the tents really are very good. The downside is that you do not get private safari and the competition, of Nomads, Serian and Sayari are arguably better. But for value, Lemala is very good indeed.

Lemala Serengeti Camp - The Facts

  • luxury mobile tented camp
  • 9 tents
  • one family tent

  • Lemala Serengeti Camp - The Detail

Between December and April, Lemala Serengeti is based in the Ndutu area and tucked away in an acacia grove on the brow of a gentle hill with lovely views of a permanent marsh in front. The marsh's resident wildlife of giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, lion, hyena are regular visitors to the camp and, at migration time, are joined by thousands of zebra and wildebeest. Game viewing literally starts at the camp during the migration season. The camp offers optional walks for the more intrepid guests.

The camp is closed mid-April to May and then relocates to the scenic northern Serengeti near the Mara River between June and November. It is set up at the base of a large kopje in Wogakuria and offers superb views of the rolling grasslands that are a magnet for the big herds of wildebeest, buffalo and elephant. Off-road game drives are permitted in northern Serengeti thus guests are able to enjoy exceptional game viewing and river crossings without the traffic jams of Masai Mara. During migration, which starts arriving from June onwards, large number of wildebeest and zebra herds remain on the Serengeti side even when the migration spills into the Masai Mara and guests continue to enjoy excellent game viewing up to November. Private vehicles are available at extra cost and must be booked in advance.

The camp is small with only 9 spacious and stylishly decorated tents (including 1 family tent). Each tent has either 2 large single beds or a king-size double bed, a wooden floor, and a private bathroom that contains a dressing area, flush loo, shower and basin with running water. The mess has a cozy sitting room with large comfy sofas and a dining room where all guests sit together with the naturalists. House drinks, camp fires, sundowners and bush meals are included.
