  • Rekero – The Detail

Amidst the teeming mass of wildlife in the Masai Mara area, Rekero's tented camp is currently inside the Masai Mara Game reserve, very close to the confluence of the Mara and Talek rivers. This mobile camp is ideally situated for the annual migration, which is the movement of over one million wildebeest and two hundred thousand zebra from the Serengeti through the Masai Mara in Kenya.

The Camp is set up seasonally (June - October, December - March) and caters for up to fourteen guests. Gerard and Rainee Beaton along with their partner Jackson Ole Looseyia, a local Masai headman, own and host this unique camp. Their team of professional Masai safari guides and camp crew have worked together for years, providing guests with an in depth and truly memorable Masai Mara experience.

With the small and luxurious size, features such as dining out under the stars, or having sundowners while looking over the local hippo pool are easily arranged and can add something memorable to a stay.

Each of the large canvas tents is looked after by a steward who will turn on the wood fire boilers for hot water before and after game drives and, with one of the largest crossing points just 20 minutes down the road, the game can be utterly spectacular.

    Rekero – Our view

Rekero has long been held as the camp to try and emulate in the Mara as it has everything you would look for from a camp. Owner run and managed, the level of standards are comparable with those of camps in Botswana and, due to the depth and knowledge that is learnt through experience of an area over a long period, the guiding can certainly be compared as well. The tents themselves may lack the glass fronts and air conditioning that can be offered these days, but, if it is a great, small and well located camp with awesome game year round that you are looking for then this is it….there is a reason the camp can be very hard to get space in!!
