The Rufiji River Camp is at the lower end of the price range for camps in the Selous. In our view, if you’re looking at keeping costs down, you are better off going to Lake Manze Tented Camp for a very small up-cost and guaranteeing a much better game experience.
The Rufiji River Camp - The Facts
Rufiji is one of the oldest lodges in the
Selous, owned and run by the Foxes family, it had a relift in 2010 and offers a clean and comfortable lodge inside the reserve.
The lodge is located in the Selous Game Reserve, near the Mtemere gate, with access to the Rufiji River for boating safari. To reach the lodge it is a 45 minute flight from Dar es Salaam, making it very accessible and perfect for a
Tanzania safari.
The main area is paved with stone and large thatched structures, giving the lodge a more permanent feel than other tented camps in the reserve. Some soft furnishings offer a good place to relax and enjoy the views of the Rufuji River.
There are 14 en suite tents along the side of the river with an open stone patio - a private spot to relax after lunch or where to take morning tea with wildlife all around you. 3 of the rooms are much larger family suites which can sleep up to 4 people.
The camp offers game drives in open sided vehicles, walking
Selous Safaris and also fly camping.
