Probably the pick of the Sopa lodges in Tanzania as it offers a somewhat intimate experience (considering the numbers of rooms), in a great spot for game viewing. The lay out of the lodge, as mentioned above, is very good, and, where it is beginning to look slightly dated, the rooms and features are still of a good standard. A good option for those not able to push out the budget and opt for Oliver’s, Swala or Treetops.

Tarangire Sopa Lodge - The Detail
The lodge has been designed in the style of an elephant, which seems like a strange concept, but actually allows for a complementary lay out for the rooms and the communal area. The makuti-style thatched roof over the reception and dining room is quite awe-inspiringly high, and, as with the Ngorongoro Sopa, it creates a sense of safari grandeur and fantastic floor to ceiling views. The Sopa is well positioned at the centre of Tarangire, with excellent safari opportunities in every direction.
Each of the 70 rooms has all the basic luxuries such as air-con, balcony and shower, and the pool is a fantastic place to go for a circular swim in between lunch courses. The restaurant food is reliably good, and with a rooftop barbeque area and poolside tables, the choice of where to eat can be as confusing as what to eat!
