Although Fundu's beach isn't as good as some of the beaches on Zanzibar, it shoudn't make any difference to your stay here as they have access to nearby islands which have some of the best in the area! There are 2 categories of room at Fundu, the Suites or the Standard room. Quite frankly our view is that the standard rooms are overpriced and too small. The suites on the other hand, especially no12 are exceptional and offer private plunge pools and decking areas that provide a respite from the poor beach. The lodge itself is desinged around offering a varied expereince in-house, and it certainly doesn't fail to provide it.

Fundu Lagoon - The Detail
Fundu Lagoon fills a niche for top quality accommodation and food in an upmarket but environmentally sympathetic style. The rooms have very private safari tents under makuti and are in either a beachside or a hilltop position. They are decked out with hand finished chunky wooden teak floors and connected with 'nature-trail' style rustic wooden rope-banister walkways.
The open restaurant and bar at its centre inspires a sense of the height of casual elegance, all billowing white nets and makuti filled with a fine aroma of fresh coffee. Here guests enjoy a sumptuous international menu, with great attention to detail, while enjoying views of the beach and sea. Staff are immaculately dressed and friendly, and there is an overall sense that the place will be well-run and guests needs attended to.
Near to the conscientiously stocked designer gift shop and reception the hotel has a sudden and surprising atmosphere of a more glitzy big hotel. From here guests look out over the long wooden jetty and dark, golden beach, and watch Pemba fishermen passing back and forth and docking their hand crafted vessels to unload the catch of the day. Fundu Lagoon has a fleet of more modern boats for diving, snorkelling and water sports, and a fine catamaran takes guests out for the full day sailing and sunset cruises. Charters can also be arranged to Zanzibar and Stone Town.
