We are the leading experts in arranging Tanzania holidays. Over the last 20 years we have developed unrivalled expertise of travelling and experiencing the best of this diverse and stunning country; our travel consultants continually re-visit Tanzania's lodges and parks, to ensure your African holiday is beyond your wildest dreams.

Whether your dream is to enjoy the ultimate wildlife experience on an astounding Serengeti safari; fly into the quiet wilds of the Selous Game Reserve or Ruaha National Park; trek and see chimpanzees on the shores of Lake Tanganyika; or soak up the best of the Indian Ocean rays on Zanzibar's beaches - whatever your preferred activity, the experts at Tanzania Odyssey will create a one of a kind itinerary just for you.

We are the tanzania experts

A Tanzania holiday is always unforgettable, and arguably the ultimate Africa safari experience. Vibrant memories of unbelievable wildlife, stunning landscapes and dramatic Indian Ocean coastlines and islands will linger long after you get home.

We've been creating tailor-made itineraries to Tanzania Africa for discerning travellers since 1998. We know what it takes to design the perfect African getaway for your dates, budget and unique preferences. And with our ATOL bond, you're fully protected at all times. An Odyssey safari really does offer holidays meticulously planned around you.

Our expertise speaks loudly for itself: Tanzania Odyssey's managing director, Marc Harris, is a judge of the Safari Awards and a former director of the African Travel and Tourism Association. One of our directors, Annabel Skinner, wrote the Cadogan Guide to Tanzania which we have partially reprinted on our site. Our team have travelled extensively in Tanzania and return every year, so rest assured our advice and guidance is always up to date. We are also proud to be the recipient of numerous travel awards - most recently Best Safari, Wildlife & Nature Holiday Company from the British Travel Awards.

We have been at the forefront of Tanzania Africa tourism for over 20 years now and really do know it like the back of our hands. The vast array of world class and unique safari experiences on offer in Tanzania also comes with complicated itinerary planning – it is not an easy country to get to grips with. Luckily though, with a bit of Tanzania Odyssey expertise and guidance it becomes really very easy. See our glowing Tanzania safari Trustpilot reviews if you are not convinced!

A common misconception from safari seekers across the globe is that having a tailor-made itinerary crafted just for you will be more expensive than booking the lodges and transport direct… But this is simply not true!

Booking through us will cost no more - and often considerably less - than booking the same trip with all the individual suppliers directly. From our 20 years of experience organising trips to Tanzania we are able to negotiate excellent rates with suppliers, which results in savings for you.

In the very unlikely event that you get a cheaper quote for the same trip from a reputable UK bonded tour operator, we will match that quote. We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of competitive prices and we will always strive to make your trip as cost-effective as possible, but without compromising on quality of course.

If you’re thinking about Tanzania holidays or Tanzania safaris, you’ve come to the right place. Here you can find everything you need to start planning the bespoke African holiday you’ve always dreamed of. Everything on our site is directly from us, so you know you’re getting the very best Tanzania holiday advice and information possible.

Although we have written our website to be as useful and informative as possible, it is always best to speak to one of our Tanzania experts directly. As with any destination, the best places to go change as new exciting lodges pop up and the excellent deals we get from our suppliers vary from week to week.

It is not only the 2,000 happy clients we have been sending on bespoke tailor-made trips to Tanzania every year since 1998 which makes us the original trusted and long-standing Tanzania experts, but also our up to date knowledge from visiting and continually re-visiting every single camp we love to recommend. As the original Tanzania experts, unlike many other outfits in the UK which originally set their sights on the umbrella of African safaris, Tanzania was our first speciality, and we have been arranging trips there since it initially opened its arms to tourism.

As well as our company’s respected background, every one of our expert consultants has either travelled extensively throughout Tanzania or lived and worked there before joining the Odyssey team. You know when planning an Odyssey holiday, you aren’t getting regurgitated here-say advice, but we make thoughtful and informed suggestions based on our personal and unequalled expertise, forged from years of experience on the ground in Tanzania. In short, we are the original Tanzania experts since 1998, and continue to be the very best Tanzania tour operator in the field to this day.

We’ll be delighted to talk to you directly, either in our offices in London or via phone or e-mail so you can tell us exactly what you expect from your Tanzania holiday. This way, we can devise an itinerary to perfectly match your unique requirements.

We've created a handy tourist guide all about Tanzania Africa which you can download and read offline (PDF). However, below is a brief overview of what a Tanzania holiday has to offer, why you should go to Tanzania, and how the experts here at Tanzania Odyssey can craft an itinerary exactly to your specialist interests and requirements.

All about Tanzania: Why go on a Tanzania Holiday?

  • Africa's most famous National Park, the Serengeti surpasses even the wildest expectations and is a landscape and wildlife experience not to be missed. Within this the unique Great Migration showcases nature at its most magnificent.
  • Tanzania's fabulous Indian Ocean beaches - either on the mainland coast, Zanzibar or one of the smaller islands. Whether you want to dive and snorkel or just flop on the sand, Tanzania has a beach that's just right for you.
  • The world's largest intact volcanic caldera, the Ngorongoro Crater is scenically stunning and a fabulous spot to see all the Big Five from..
  • For a different perspective on Tanzania, climb the majestic snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro– the continent’s largest and most impressive mountain.
  • Avoid the crowds in the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater by travelling Tanzania's authentic and truly wild southern safari lands; the Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park.
  • Bask in the presence of the incredible Mahale Mountain chimps, where you have the best chance in the world of catching a glimpse of these incredible primates.
  • For a different perspective on Tanzania, climb the majestic snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro– the highest peak on the continent and the rooftop of Africa.

All in all, Tanzania offers world-class wildlife viewing, including lots of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) and plenty of predators, in a variety of excellent safari parks and reserves. Tanzania is world class, iconic, and rightly heralded as nature’s most prehistoric and magnificent core.

  • The Great Wildebeest Migration: When two million wildebeest move across the dramatic acacia-dotted Serengeti plains in their continuous search for green pastures, a truly spectacular scene is born; an image which will no doubt be engraved in your memory for life. See our Great Migration Guide which gives the low down of what route the wildebeest really take, as opposed to what everyone else has told you! There are a few common misconceptions about their route, and we aim to clear this up, to give travellers the best possible chance of catching the big herds.

When to go on a Tanzania Safari and Beach Holiday

The majority of Tanzania's wildlife is resident year-round, so game viewing is available whenever you like. April and May can be rainy and are probably best avoided - especially if you're also planning some time on the beach. Special offers are available at this time though, so there really are pros and cons to visiting Tanzania throughout the year. Generally, the best time for dry-season wildlife viewing is from July – October throughout the country. However, in the north The Serengeti’s Great Migration is exceptional in February with calving season; so please do pick up the phone and tell us your priorities and we can advise on the best time to visit. As a general rule see here for details

Odyssey Holidays - we don't just know Tanzania!

We're mad about Tanzania, but we love the rest of Africa too and have experts to advise on holiday travel in all the main safari countries. If you're not sure where you want to visit, call us and we can work out which country may suit you best.
