Although we tailor-make all our trips we have reproduced a number of popular itineraries here
This was a mobile tent. Far nicer than we expected. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Food was very good. A great experience. Could easily have stayed longer.

We went on safari in Tanzania last February and thanks to some sound advice and planning from Tanzania Odyssey we chose to spend a full week with Alex Walker and his team at Serian Maswa in the southern Serengetti. It was the best thing we could possibly have done. Alex encourages people to come and stay for as long as possible so that they can really immerse themselves into the full experience and we wholeheartedly endorse that approach. There is such a variety of things to do that it is impossible to fit them all in during a 2-3 day visit. More importantly, the longer stay allows you to learn so much more about the surroundings and the people as well. We had a brilliant crew looking after us - Alex himself, always enthusiastic and informative, our guide Marsha, the young Masai Sadala, old Singi the hunter. Altogether a wealth of experience and knowledge to tap into and they were all really enthusiastic.
Half way through our stay we went for a full day's walk toward the south, past all the Masai bomas and finishing up with a BBQ and fly-tenting right on the edge of the Rift valley overlooking Lake Eyasi - just spectacular. The next day combined driving into a new area and walking up a river gorge following leopard tracks, then meeting Munyati tribesmen searching for their lost cattle after a hyena raid on their boma.
Other highlights.... Amazing comfort and luxury for a mobile camp but much more besides - - Dinner round a big table every evening with Alex and some very interesting fellow guests all swapping stories - the surprise 'bush bath' (whoops - sorry - shouldn't have mentioned it. a secret), the sundowner on the top of an amazing rock in the middle of the bush with the mountains in the distance. We never saw another safari operator while staying with Alex so you really felt special and immersed into the bush.
Yes it had all the big animals as well but if you really want to get into the experience & away from just the standard bush drives then this is the place to go.

Alex Walker's Serian was amazing. I wasn't sure what to expect of a tented camp literally in the middle of the Serenghetti, but we were definitely more than pleased with Serian. The tent's were spacious and beautifully decorated. The service at the camp was beyond exceptional, coffee or tea when you wake up in your tent along with hot water for a shower whenever you liked. The staff at Serian worked hard to prepare exceptional meals including picnic lunch and breakfast while on Safari. Our guide was Alex Walker himself who took us on a great safari and made sure we saw what we wanted in terms of animals. Alex was very knowledgeable and friendly. One of the best parts about Serian was dinner. It was a community dinner where all guest sit at a large round table and can share their stories from the day while on Safari. This truly creates a friendly atmosphere where great stories are shared. As it was our honeymoon, Alex and his staff set-up a private outdoor bath for us so we could enjoy a warm bath under the stars of which there were plenty. Would definitely visit again and recommended to friends and family.

The highlight of our trip was, of course, the safari and our stay at Alex Walker’s Serian camp. Thanks again, Ed, for steering me in the direction of this camp. It really was, as you promised, a “real safari experience”. Masha, our guide and Tabu, our spotter went out of their way to give us the best experience and insight into the wildlife of the Serengeti! They are an extremely able and knowledgeable team and did everything to bring us close to lions, leopards, cheetahs and the likes, plus they are very, very likeable people.
Coming home to the camp after a long game drive for a lovely hot shower, a drink around the camp fire and a very well prepared fresh and tasty meal (and freely flowing wine)– simply an unforgettable experience! The relaxed conversations and warm and friendly atmosphere around the dinner table or wherever has a lot to do with the personality of the owner. Alex’s genuine interest in people, his passion for what he does and his obvious aim to provide his guests with the best had noticeably set an example to all his staff. The girls and I have decided, whenever we will be doing another safari, we’ll only book Alex Walker’s Serian camps! Oh, by the way, Alex sends you his regards, Ed. They all remember your stay very well.

The location was great. The staff were fantastic, and the was food excellent. Our guide and spotter were very good. Keen to please and adept at spotting game. They were also very aware of light and how it would impact the ability to take photographs. Hence careful to position the vehicle. The accommodation was fine, and fit for purpose. Hearing the animals at night is always exciting. It is a style that allows for a sense of true Safari in the bush with the added pleasure of personal attention. We would definitely return.

At Serian South in the Conservation Unit, there are far fewer predators (although we did find 3 cheetah brothers and separately a mom and 3 young cubs) but the herds were vast and the birthing season, which had not really started at Kusini, started exploding. We saw multiple live births and more babies appeared hourly. Really incredible to watch a baby wildebeest get to its feet and be running in 3-5 minutes. Also, Alex was at Serian and he is fun to be around.
