  • Amani Beach Club – The Detail

Having been discovered around 15 years ago by an Italian businessman called Lelio, this stretch of mainland Tanzania consisted of untamed bush and a beautiful, unkempt and palm fringed beach. This beach has remained one of Tanzania’s best kept secrets as it is not easy to access by road from Dar es Salaam. Over the years, the hotel has changed in feel as management has been and gone, but the essence of the lodge, simple and relaxed, has remained the same.

With only 12 rooms, the lodge has a sense of exclusiveness and is the perfect hideaway for either a couple of nights or a whole week. Each of the rooms is a vast and spacious marble-floored cottage with opulent bathroom and air conditioning. Rooms are packed with Arabic-style antiques surrounding a large four-poster bed swathed with nets and chintzy cushions.

The hotel is set in wonderfully colourful gardens awash with vibrant bougainvillaea’s around a huge and ancient old baobab tree. The Beach Club also has a large and clean swimming pool at by the beach, and a choice of two restaurants for dining on the beach or in the main building.

Amani Beach Club – Our View

A really great option for families and those who want to stay on the mainland with all the luxuries of a western hotel. Fabulous swimming pool and large open rooms with all the mod cons (apart from televisions) possibly needed. Food is of a good standard and currently the lodge offers great value for money. Possibly the greatest selling point, however, is the beach which runs all the way from Dar es Salaam to Mtwara and, while not the white sands of Zanzibar, is rugged and beautiful!
