Jongomero is an absolutely exceptional safari camp. It is one of our favourites in the whole of Tanzania, which is not a compliment we hand out lightly. It is the most luxurious camp in the park as well as offering fantastic service, the most remote location and guiding so good it borders on genius. Jongomero really is a firm favourite and one we highly recommend.
Jongomero Camp - The Facts
Jongomero is located in the south-east of the Ruaha
National Park. It is the only camp in the vicinity which gives you complete seclusion and a guarantee of a Ruaha Safari
trip that will offer you exclusive game viewing. For this reason the lodge has its own air strip that connects to Arusha, the Selous and Dar es Salaam.
The main guest area is an impressive locally crafted structure with a giant ‘makuti’ roof. It's nestled amongst the trees on the banks of the Jogomero River which is dry river bed most of the year round. It is comfortable and spacious; with the restaurant area based slightly further down, overlooking the seasonal river.
The path leading to the tents takes you alongside the ‘Hippo friendly’ swimming pool (unwelcome night-time visitors are able to walk out the pool rather than be dug out!). The tents are so spacious and well furnished that it’s hard not to want to move in on a permanent basis! The veranda looks out on to the river bed and is an excellent place to sit and soak up the atmosphere whilst watching the birds and other wildlife.
The camp is incredibly well looked after and hosted by Noël - but what sets Jongomero apart from other camps is the guiding. The guides are led by the inspirational manager, Molly, whose knowledge and passion for the local wildlife is unsurpassed. His passion is infectious and it really makes this camp a must see.
Altogether a brilliant camp that we think is as good a safari
camp as you can get. Right up there with the best Tanzania safari holiday
destinations on offer....
