Tanzania Honeymoon

Tanzania Honeymoons: Why Tanzania?

Tanzania is one of the world's finest destinations for honeymoons. With exceptional safari and beautiful lodges in every park we deal with, Tanzania's beaches on Zanzibar and its surrounding islands combine to create the perfect safari and beach destination. Whether you travel North to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, or choose to travel to the quieter parks in Southern or Western Tanzania there are honeymoons to be designed for all kinds of budgets and styles.

East Africa is the perfect destination for a honeymoon to Africa primarily due to its location to seriously good beaches.
Choosing between Tanzania or Kenya is the decision many travellers face. Tanzania has long been the destination for an African honeymoon due to the quality of the safari, and its close proximity to world class beach destinations on Zanzibar. Kenya has great, albeit touristy safari but does not have any world class beach destinations. We find that the majority of travellers choose Tanzania for their honeymoon, and even those who choose Kenya for their safari still opt for Tanzania's beach destinations.

Tanzania Honeymoons: Our experience

We have sent literally thousands of honeymooners to Tanzania. So many in fact that we believe we have become rather good at it! Our knowledge is always up-to-date, and we are adamant that our experience will help you create the finest honeymoon Tanzania can offer. We have even got two staff working here who went on their own honeymoons to the country! Hundreds of our clients having experienced what we can design in the country; we can absolutely guarantee you a honeymoon to remember.

Tanzania Honeymoon: does the time of year change my destination choice?

The quick answer to that is yes. However the decision actually usually rests upon whether you should go to the South or North of the country, as opposed to whether the countries weather is the deciding factor. The reason for this is that Tanzania has very good game viewing throughout the year and there is always a part of the country that is in its peak season for viewing. Honeymoons can be designed for anytime of the year to make the most of the best game viewing. The only time we would suggest travelling elsewhere is in the last couple of weeks in March and throughout April and May when the heavy rains set in. You simply cannot guarantee getting good weather so the beach time is a risk. Even at this time, the Serengeti is superb time for game viewing, and the countries lodges are a fraction of the cost of their high season rates. As a general 'honeymoon rule' we would recommend travelling to Northern Tanzania for a honeymoon from December through to March, because the quality of the safari in Northern Tanzania is better than the South at this time of year. But for the rest of the year, potentially June excluded as the Southern parks are not at their peak, we would at least recommend you considered going to the lesser known Southern parks.

A Honeymoon in the South or North of Tanzania?

There is no doubt that the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and its surrounding National Parks and activities on offer will provide a superb destination for a very good honeymoon; the greatest concentrations of game occur up here and the quality of the camps and lodges are set very high. So why even consider the South?! We have always said that wherever you go you will have a honeymoon to remember, but it is worth considering the South for a number of reasons. Firstly, you get more for your money in Southern Tanzania than you do over a safari in the North. Secondly it is much quieter down here, with the area receiving a fraction of the number of tourists than Northern Tanzania. Finally, there are many more activities on offer in Southern Tanzania such as the boating safari, fishing and sleeping out on a fly camp under the stars. In summary, going South may well not have the absurd volumes of gane that you get in Northern Tanzania, but it will give you a more intimate, authentic and quiet experience for arguably, a better price! Our favourite safari lodges for honeymooners

It is very easy for us to pick the countries most luxurious properties as the best places for honeymoons. Lodges such as Sasakwa, Faru Faru, The Ngorongoro Crater lodge, Greystoke, Mnemba and Beho Beho are phenomenally expensive and luxurious properties that would be on many lists for the top hotels in the world; there is little doubt that they are superb for honeymoons. However we also use a number of properties that offer amazing attention to deal and a real understanding of what honeymoons are all about, for a much more affordable price.

Lodges and camps that have consistently worked very well for us for honeymoons in Northern Tanzania are the likes of Olivers Camp, Tarangire Treetops and Swala in Tarangire, Plantation Lodge and Gibbs Farm for the Ngorongoro and for the Serengeti a number of different choices: Asilia's Sayari Camp, Alex Walker's Serian, Asilia's Olakira and Dunia Camp as well as Nomad Tanzania new Serengeti Lamai and their Serengeti Safari Camp. &beyond's Serengeti Under Canvas raises prices again but is the most luxurious mobile camp.

Our favourite honeymoon beach hotels

Again, obviously budget plays a key role here. There is a great lodge on the mainland coast just South of Dar es Salaam that is a real favourite in the office and offers great value compared to some of the hotels on the islands. Called Ras Kutani, this beautiful little beach lodge is probably the hotel in the country that we get the best feedback from! Moving out to the islands and Pemba's Fundu Lagoon is a common choice amongst many operators but not actually a favourite in the office here. We have always much preferred Zanzibar's hotels due to their better quality beaches. The likes of Ras Nungwi, Matemwe Bungalows, Baraza and The Palms are superb options with the icing on the cake being the wallet bursting Mnemba Island off Zanzibar's coast. It is also worth considering Vamizi and Quilalea in Northern Mozambique. Linked from Dar es Salaam in about the same time as it takes to get to the islands off Zanzibar, these beach lodges are seriously good.
