Kigelia CampSet back on the banks of the Ifuguru River, and among a mass of Kigelia or “sausage trees”, the very authentic camp really pays homage to the natural beauty of Ruaha. Maintaining a unique, untouched, eco-sensitive approach, Kigelia Camp offers an unrivalled, natural, safari-focused experience, leaving almost no effect on the surrounding environment.
Kigelia – The Facts
6 luxury tents, ensuite bathrooms, outdoor Showers
Exceptional guiding and local knowledge of the area
Top quality game viewing vehicles, padded and well equipped for photographers
Lovely game walking area and varied terrain
Kigelia – The Detail Although very simple and basic, Kigelia Camp allows all the focus directed to you. This camp is so personal and attention to detail taken into very seriously, your experience is all about you. Without being too simple, it offers an tremendously luxurious service with 3 course dinners in the riverbed, star gazing, a blazing fire and the roaring of lion. The communal area is a canvas tent, very cozy and basic luxury.
Kigelia Camp is the great example of how a luxury camp can function on the bare minimum behind the scenes in order to be as environmentally friendly to its surroundings. You really do get this feeling in camp and it’s somewhat satisfying. Rob Barbour who runs it has various self sustaining community projects and his main focus is to give back!
When the river is running, the camp and its surroundings turn into an oasis of natural beauty. The game drive areas continually vary in terrain, from sparse Baobab filled outcrops to palm forests, sand rivers and rocky gorges. Accompanied by great guiding, games drives and walks are incredibly educational at Kigelia, learning something new every step of the way.
Kigelia – Our viewIf you are the type that’s been on safari before and looking for an authentic, natural experience, with intimate guiding Kigelia is your place. You don’t get the mass of wildlife in the area that you do in other parts of Ruaha, but they’re the same animals, however, the area feels like it’s all yours.
