Mwagusi: Interesting Facts
Mwagusi: In depth
Mwagusi is located in Ruaha, south Tanzania. The park is one of the most remote and beautiful Tanzania safari locations and the lodge provides an excellent base to take in all its natural wonders.
The bandas are beautiful in a very natural way and blend perfectly into the surroundings. The open verandas are full of sofas, bean bags and comfy hammocks for the guests to relax and read a book in between games drives. The bandas themselves are spacious and well decorated in the same easy, rustic fashion.
The river bed that the lodge is built along is often dry and sandy, making it a stunning restaurant. The sandy bed is lit with lanterns and you can dine out beneath the stars. This is what makes this Ruaha Safari that extra bit special.
Mwagusi is owned and run by the famous Chris Fox, one of the most famous names in east Africa and one of the pioneers of the Ruaha National Park, his family helped to ensure that the land was gazetted and fully protected in 1964. Waking up and seeing Chris strolling along the river bed with a friendly old bull elephant is a sight to behold, and it’s that atmosphere that makes this camp so special. Tanzania safari holidays rarely have this level of expertise permeating all levels of the camp.

Mwagusi (Ruhaha Park) : we really enjoyed Ruhaha and the lodge. As promised, Mwagusi is amazing, the games drives were excellent – we had wonderful guides and driver (Isaac and Vicent) – and we brought back beautiful pictures
Hi, we did indeed enjoy our trip very much with everything going to plan . Our self booked flights with Kenya Airways via Nairobi to Dar were on time and very comfortable in business. In fact the connection to the internal flight to Mwagusi from Dar was tight as they wanted to bring departure forward but they waited for us.
Mwagusi and Ruaha was everything we remembered from 13 years ago , a really wonderful camp
We had a great time. Mwagusi was best of all, Mdonya was really nice and Katuma was great, fantastic leopard sightings which we were hoping for as well as lions around our tent on two mornings…great! Just to let you know everything ran like clock-work, picked up, transported etc from airport and hotel perfectly, internal flights between reserves excellent…your organisation was faultless and we are whole heartedly recommending you to anyone else travelling to Africa (actually quite a few fellow travellers had booked through you, and all were very happy with their arrangements).

It is the most luxurious camp in the park as well as offering fantastic service, the most remote location and guiding so good it borders on genius. Jongomero really is a firm favourite and one we highly recommend.
