Mnemba Island Lodge: In depthMnemba Island located just of the north east coast of Zanzibar. It is accessible by flying to Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar and then being driven to a crossing point on the north of the island. You will then be transferred by boat to the private island. The perfect place to relax and unwind after a safari. Mnemba may be one of the most expensive beach lodges on the coast, however, the lodge is very simple and the sheer beauty of the beach delivers one of the finest barefoot luxury experiences in Africa. The &Beyond staff and impeccable cuisine make this the perfect beach location. This is the pinnacle Tanzania holidays. The communal area is simple and open with views onto the white sand of the beach, serving excellent fresh sea food as well as pretty much anything you want! Accommodation is in just 10 roomy, thatched beach bandas with bathrooms set back along a soft corridor of woven coconut palm, each set back from the beach in a private clearing in the forest. All bedrooms, verandas and central living areas are atmospherically designed with light cotton nets, soft African prints and cushions, and - once the astronomical rates have been afforded - all fresh tropical cocktails, diving expeditions, water sports and fishing trips are included! The lodge runs a professional dive school and has traditional wooden dhows from which to explore the warm, clear waters and coral reefs. Guests then return to their island hideaway to enjoy sumptuous feasts of fresh fruit, vegetables, seafood and meats all fabulously prepared and presented. Breezes is exceptional value for money. It may be a large hotel but it delivers a trusty and excellent product. It is our favourite in the ‘large hotel’ category and perfect for families and honeymooners alike. Having been running for longer than most of the other properties on the island you can expect the years of experience to shine through. The facilities are great and the lovely long pristine beach makes its size all worthwhile. Zanzibar, West Coast
This is one of Zanzibar’s largest hotels. Although it does offer a lovely cheap rate on all its room categories, the ambiance and European-party induced character it has adopted make it reason to look elsewhere if you are after some sort of peace. In fairness to the designers, the rooms are well hidden from the bulk of the property but once you’re at your room, you are evidently in one of many large blocks. If you are looking for a big hotel, we much prefer to use Breezes which offers a better quality product at about the same price.
