Ras Nungwi: Interesting Facts
Ras Nungwi: In depth
Ras Nungwi benefits from being on the North tip of the island with a very good beach which is relatively quiet compared to other beaches on the island; and also only a short boat ride to some of the very best diving and snorkelling spots on Zanzibar. The hotel is about a 1hour drive from Stone Town and the airport. It's a great Tanzania holiday all-rounder.
The main area of the lodge is a huge structure with a Makuti thatched roof, housing the dining areas, bar and reception. Following a path down to the beach among the chalets you will find a lovely swimming pool and, overlooking the beach, a bar and dining area.
There are 3 main room types, Garden Lodge rooms at the rear of the property, very spacious and good value but lack being right on the beach. The other two categories are the Superior Chalets and Superior Deluxe Chalets, the latter being closer to the beach.
Ras Nungwi has a very good onsite water sports centre and somewhere you can rent all dive equipment, kayaks, organise deep sea fishing etc. The location of Nungwi is very good for those wishing to dive and snorkel on the Mnemba Atoll.

The best beach lodge in east Africa! As a company we have explored the entire coast and there nowhere that gets near to Ras Kutani. It is ‘bare foot beach luxury’ at its best and comes at fantastic value. It is secluded, private and spectacularly beautiful. Team this with fantastic rooms, lovely food and great service and we have ourselves a champion of beach lodges.
Zanzibar, East Coast
Shooting Star used to be one of Zanzibar’s few trusted products. It still hold its own amongst its competition, but being rather dated now, it gets perceived as not being a good place to stay. It is exceptionally good value for money and makes an itinerary much cheaper than if you used a more modern beach lodge.

Breezes is exceptional value for money. It may be a large hotel but it delivers a trusty and excellent product. It is our favourite in the ‘large hotel’ category and perfect for families and honeymooners alike. Having been running for longer than most of the other properties on the island you can expect the years of experience to shine through. The facilities are great and the lovely long pristine beach makes its size all worthwhile.
