I felt I had to sent you a short email just to say how much we had enjoyed Fundu Lagoon and the words ‘paradise’ and ‘idyllic’ immediately spring to mind when recalling our stay.
I’m not sure if you have spoken with Caroline but we wanted to thank you for your assistance with organising our week at Fundu Lagoon. The “Lagoon” was of course magnificent and Julia Bishop is obviously an excellent manager with a skill in maintaining civilisation against the odds. The diving there was also very good and the organisation relaxed, accommodating and helpful.
The two “suites” were far more than we needed in that the boys could have bivouaced (sp?) with us but I guess that we all did a special service in testing them out and providing an impetus to get them ready. We would certainly choose one of them again if we return.
I’ve been meaning to get in touch to say thanks for arranging such an amazing trip. We loved every minute of it.
Fundu was simply amazing, and somewhere we would definitely go back to. The staff, the location, the guests were all top notch.
We landed on Pemba and then it was a 50 minute interesting road trip and a fun 15 minute boat ride to reach the jetty at Fundu where we had a wonderful welcome from Marty and were taken along soft white sand to our beach suite which was wonderful. With its own plunge pool and a bush baby who would visit in the evening. Our children were next door in a beach room and every night we slept soundly under mosquito nets and fans. The dive set up here is one of the best we have come across around the world. Extremely safe, with great equipment and led by Filbert, who tailors things around you, so part of our group could snorkel on masali island - just 10 minutes away ( left with a big icebox of water) where the coral off the beach is amazing and the rest dived just around the corner. Perfect for everyone. I would really recommend to anyone that this would be a great place to learn to dive - Fil showed our boys some amazing parts of the reef. My husband and sons had a great time deep sea fishing with Rusty who again has amazing kit and knowledge and my 14 year old son landed a 18kg wahoo. It takes a lot to impress my husband who is a very keen fisherman. In between we paddle boarded off shore, played in the pool and had great meals in varying locations around the resort. You can arrange to be collected from Fundu by Zanzibar fishing charters and spend more time around the islands fishing and diving if you wish and we also loved. The laundry service was included and very efficient Pemba had a special feel and Fundu lagoon couldn't be beaten as a base here.
