Raw, rough and really really good! Mdonya excels at creating a camp that fits into the surrounding, offering a truly authentic safari product that is one of the best game experiences in the whole country! Even though the camp may be somewhat basic, this is the intention; Mdonya aims to give guests the true bush experience. The location certainly helps, with an abundance of lion, buffalo and elephant in the surrounding area, many intent on using the camps as their thorough pass! There are also hides at both ends of the camp. The only drawback is that it has somewhat of an Italian following, but this is not really an issue! We love it!

Mdonya Old River - The Detail
A small but great Adventure Camp, Mdonya was designed to replicate the atmosphere and character of the infamous Oliver's Camp in Tarangire, to the north, and is now well established and is perhaps one of the most exciting bush destinations in Tanzania! It is located in the Ruaha National Park, the second largest in Tanzania, a few kilometers from Mdonya Falls and a two-hour, exciting game drive from the airstrip.
With just 11 twin or double bedded tents, all with en-suite out door facilities, (it is possible to shower watching the rising moon or a shooting star!), Mdonya Old River is a small camp offering a personal service designed to each client's needs. The tents are simple yet comfortable, furnished with twin or double beds veiled by mosquito net with fairly large verandas where clients can relax and observe wildlife that rambles down the old river bed.
Located right at the centre of a wilderness area, the dining and lounge tents are under Sycamore Fig trees overlooking the dry river bed, sitting in the camp with a book and a pair of binoculars may be quite rewarding. However, game drives are flexible and not limited by any schedule!!
As the sun sets, the camp is gently lit up by a host of candles and hurricane lamps that give the soft furnishings and setting a true, old world charm which lulls you to sleep with the sounds of the bush around you.
