Ngorongoro Crater Serena This provides an impressive rocky bastion against the cool highland mists, and excellent and cosy rooms with full sliding-glass panels between bed and the open jaw of the Ngorongoro Conservation area are stunning.
The 75 rooms of the Ngorongoro Crater Serena Lodge are laid out on two levels in long lines along the crater rim, making it feel much bigger than the other Tanzanian Serena properties. The whole hotel is well decorated with hand-painted cave-type illustrations and styled throughout. The dining room and bar are warm and inviting, with crackling wood fires in each, and the menu is both delicious and extensive, incorporating at least four courses.

Suffers to a certain extent from its rather obvious styling, but fortunately you are not there to see the building! The hotel itself maintains the high standards set by the other hotels in the Serena chain and this is certainly a very good option for people who do not mind sharing the view. All in all this is a good hotel and, unlike the Sopa, although it shares the crater access road with about 5 others, it affords good access to the road to the Serengeti.
