Oyster Bay

Oyster Bay is the finest place to stay in Dar es Salaam.  There are only 8 rooms, unlike the typically large hotel airports in Dar.  The food and service is amazing.  The rooms are massive and a welcome break from a safari or long haul flight.  The Oyster Bay is not cheap at all and it’s only used as a one or two night stop, so if you are looking to save then we recommend one of the larger hotel airports like the Royal Palm.

Oyster Bay - The Facts

Oyster Bay is located on the coast in a very smart area of Dar es Salaam, near the embassies.  The airport is about a 35 minute drive away, but if traffic is bad it can take a bit longer. The fortunate location also allows for sea views.  It is the most exclusive Dar es Salaam accomodation, and only for those with an unlimited Tanzania holiday budget!

The entrance to the hotel is a large Zanzibar door that leads to a spacious reception room.  To the left is an enormous living room and round one side is the open dining area with a very long teak table.  Big sliding doors open out to a colonial-like veranda which stretches all the way along one side of the property with the large gardens and swimming pool to look out to.

The 8 rooms are extremely luxurious with great views out to the coast. Each has a huge bed, large modern bathrooms and there is even a living area with a sofa and television.  Little balconies open up but the joys of the powerful air-conditioning tend to leave this outdoor space untouched.

There are market visits, museum visits and shopping trips which can all be arranged from the reception.
