Kirurumu Lake Manyara

The lodge is cleverly blended into its bushy surroundings just outside the beautiful Lake Manyara National Park, and has an excellent view of the Great Rift Valley from many of the rooms and the bar area. We think this is a very attractive alternative for travelers who are not after big and occasionally uninspiring hotels. Be sure to ask the attentive reception ladies to teach you some Swahili – they will get very into it and make your stay even more enjoyable.

Kirurumu Manyara

Kirurumu Camp is located about a 30 minute drive from Manyara airstrip, and two hours from Arusha. The site consists of 27 permanent tented rooms all with wooden decked balconies and most of which overlook the spectacular view which the bar also boasts.

Hoopoe Safaris owns the lodge, and so you can be certain that by going through this highly respected company you are benefitting community based responsible tourism. Because the location is outside of the National Park, Kirurumu can offer botanical walks with the hugely knowledgeable Siyanga and Maggie who will teach you about the medicinal uses of plants from the surrounding trees. Siyanga has published a book on Maasai traditions and in particular his expertise on botany, which can be found in the charming curio shop at reception. You can also hire bikes and explore everything the local town has to offer. In the park you can find a wealth of wildlife including flamingos and if you are lucky you may spot the famous tree-climbing lions.

As well as guide expertise, the camp offers a good customer service and dining experience. The food and beverage team insist that nothing is a problem and will no doubt keep a big smile on your face all through your three courses. The dining area sits up to 40 guests and is wooden, attractive and breezy. The whole camp feels perfectly at home in its environment with the clever use of natural materials and subtle bushy walkways – a feeling which is complimented by the sound of many different bird species bathing in the waterholes which surround the dining area.
