Pongwe Beach Hotel Set over on the north eastern coastline of Zanzibar, Pongwe Beach Hotel is a relatively new addition to the Hotel community, and a very welcome one. The hotel consists of 16 rooms set in small cottages, 2 to a cottage, most of which have views of the beach and sea beyond. The beach itself is a beautiful little cove that is sheltered on both sides by a small coral outcrop, and, as the hotels owns the land around it aswell, it means that there is almost no traffic on the beach at all. There is now a delightful swimming pool which was completed in November 2006
Run by Val, who learnt his trade in the large hotels of London, this hotel aims at the 3 to 4 star price bracket. The food is good although nothing overly spectacular, and the service in general is fine.
Pongwe Beach Hotel – Tanzania Odyssey View
This is a lovely little hotel set on an idyllic stretch of the Zanzibar coastline. Although not up to the standard of nearby Ras Nungwi, as regards service or accomadation, the beach is very close to it. I would personally recommend coming here if you are looking for the honeymoon seclusion and are happy with only the basics. The only very real drawback is that they are yet to get a pool, and at low tide it is not much fun walking 2 kilometers for a paddle.
