Arusha Coffee Lodge by Elewana

There are few luxury properties in and around Arusha, of all these the Arusha Coffee Lodge is the best.  Owned and run by Elewana, this property maintains great levels of quality and service.  Being located on a working coffee plantation allows a different sort of feel and air to your stay.  A stay in Arusha would normally be a one night stop, at most, two. If you are looking for something a bit cheaper then Onsea House or Machweo Retreat would be our first choice and if they are full then Rivertrees is the next best option.

Arusha Coffee Lodge - The Facts

This coffee lodge is a medium sized and well established coffee plantation set to the west of Arusha and conveniently close to the airport.  Being located on the outskirts of the town, you still get a rural feel to your stay and the whole effect of a working coffee plantation.

The main area has a terracotta-like appeal to it with a lot red brick, dark wooden bar area and rustic looking floors. The restaurant area is very spacious and airy and the food quality is exceptional.  There is a central fire place and the bar is off-set from the restaurant.  The gardens are enormous and dotted with garden tables and benches, each equipped with a large umbrella for the midday sun and small play ground area for children.

The rooms are built with red brick and offer a traditional plantation farm character, almost cabin-like.  They have large rooms with balconies that stretch along one side.  There are large cupboards, wicker arm chairs and each has a huge modern bathroom.
The lodge has all of the facilities of a normal safari lodge, it is easy enough to spend a few nights here if you need to as part of an itinerary that explores the surrounding areas.  Activities can all be arranged from the reception.  Activities include trips to Arusha National Park, village tours,  museum trips, lunches out in the plantations and market visits.  A great hub for starting any Tanzania safari.

Arusha Coffee Lodge - Reviews

Overall, absolutely fantastic property with a lovely, caring manager. The villas are huge(!) and the whole thing feels very personal and exclusive due to the maximum capacity of 12 guests in total. Beautiful private beach and great sun loungers, which we used all day. The amount and quality of food was great overall, you should be keen in sea food though, which we both luckily are. The waiting staff were all super friendly, but sometimes things took a little long to arrive (milk for coffee, coffee refill, olive oil etc.), however that should improve the longer they work there.
The one thing that takes off 0.5 points is the fact that our villa was right next to a building site where they are building more villas. We were warned before by the manager that we should let her know if there is noise during the day, but ultimately this meant that we never stayed on our terrace, as completely silent building work just does not exist. One night, we there was loud hammering until 8pm which made it impossible to relax in the villa and it was the managers day off, and the other staff needed us to come up to them to alert them of the noise although it was clearly noticeable everywhere and the builders knew there were guests staying next door... Our complaint was handled with the upmost professionality by the manager the next day and we received free massages in the Baraza Spa and one night off, as she was very sorry that it dampened an otherwise fantastic stay.
