Previously known as Amara Selous, Azura Selous has become a transformed lodge under the luxury brand Azura. Located on the western part of the Selous, and despite not being famous for its game viewing as it was a hunting block until 2005, it has increased in abundance since and has also become renowed for photography. When visiting the lodge we certainly felt the accommodation was of a high standard, with the bonus of air conditioning (one of the only camps with this in Selous) and the rooms being constructed with both canvas and stone look out onto the Ruaha River.
Azura Selous - The Facts
The lodge is located in the western area of the Selous Game Reserve
, despite not being the best game viewing safari lodge in comparison to Lake Manze and the Siwandu area, it has become a photographic haven; and game viewings have increased greatly between each visit we have made there so we only expect that to improve.
The lodge is located on the Ruaha, with the 13 luxurious and spacious stone and canvas rooms looking out onto the River, with air conditioning. The main area of the lodge is on a few levels all centred around the best infinity pool to be found in the Selous, with a terrace and restaurant with views over the river banks where hippos and crocadiles can be spotted.
The main activity here at Azura Selous is game drives in open sided vehicles as well as walking safaris. There is the option of boating Selous Safaris, however, this heavily dependent on the river levels which isn't always dependable. There is a Rhino protection camp in the vicinity; and even though Rhino sightings are very rare, this is a great camp for a Tanzania Safari.
