Selous Serena Camp

The Victorian style rooms here offer a luxury tented safari experience at unbelievable value. Being owned by a bigger brand has really worked in this camps favour – allowing them to offer exceptional service, luxury and brilliant safari at a price usually associated with much lesser camps.

The Facts

Comprised of 12 tents, the Selous Serena is an intimate camp and very well located with many rooms boasting great bushy river views. The main area has a well stocked bar, a great riverside pool, a cosy dining area, and even a resident hippo which you can watch whilst having your breakfast!

In the tents, you do not have aircon but are provided with fans and you can also expect a fantastic Victorian style bathtub to relax in after a full day of wildlife viewing. The tents are very comfortable, and really feel authentically in the bush, which is only accentuated by the old safari style rooms and decor. This is the place to go for a little splash of luxury, for a lot less money than in other areas of Tanzania.

Activities

The beauty of staying in the Selous is that as well as being a magnificant park, you can do various activities from the camp that you simply cannot do in the Serengeti. The boat cruise is a really different and great way to see the park from, and you will spot endless crocodiles and hippos. We would really recommend the sundowner boat cruise, as it really is magical at this time of night. You can also so walking safaris, visit the hot springs and go for bush picnics. The lodge also offers fishing, which can act as a nice pit stop in your boating safari.

Very good condition of the lodge and tent, very warm hosts, and the fact that we were the only guests for one of our nights was fantastic. Also the safari guide was fantastic.
