Our View
Plantation Lodge is probably our favourite coffee plantation in the Ngorongoro Highlands. It’s tranquil, scenic and in a great spot for easy access to the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. The rooms are simple but luxurious and the food is particularly good as they make use of their fine organic vegetable garden. There are other great places such as Gibbs Farm in the area but we feel that Plantation is setting the highest standards at the moment.
The Highlands is Asilia's newest project, and a very exciting one at that. The Ngorongoro area has been sorely lacking lacking any camps operated for true safari enthusiasts, and this fills the gap. The fascinatingly unique design blends well with the surrounding environment and creates a feeling of real luxury.
Our View
Gibbs farm is a magical place. The surrounding rolling hills offer fantastic views, and the areas rich soil has turned the gardens into a tropical paradise. It really is unique in the respect that it is so rich in flora and fauna, and holds the wonders of the Ngorongoro Crater a mere 30 minutes away.

The Ngorongoro Farm House is a good value option when visiting the Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara area. The lodge is set in the coffee plantations of with lush hill sides and lovely views. The lodge really feels like a operating farm and is slightly more rustic than some of the other properties in the area but is priced respectively.
The lodge is located in the Karatu area which is equal distance from Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara which serves as the perfect location for a driving safari starting in Arusha.
The stunning Ngorongoro Highlands surround The Manor and leave the guests in a permanent state of awe and tranquillity. It is a fantastic opportunity to have a break from intense game viewing and put your feet up in utter luxury.
Our View
We really like Ndutu Lodge for two reasons, its location and its simplicity; ok this place is not going to blow you away but from the December to March time when the herds are in this area its is the best value permanent lodge in the whole area. For this reason, especially in February time this lodge gets very booked up. This is a ‘drive in’ lodge which requires to bring your own vehicle and guide from Arusha which also means that this lodge can get booked up by the mass market safari companies.
Exploreans is one of the latest additions to the Ngorongoro Highland region and is becoming a firm favourite. With its proximity to the Crater gates, luxurious accommodation and reasonable rates, it is hard to find many negatives. As long as you are willing to forgo the more traditionally built and decorated lodges, you can’t go far wrong in terms of location and comfort.
Kensington Endoro is a lovely lodge and like all lodges in the highlands area, it serves a great purpose for those on safari round the Ngorongoro Crater and Manyara. It is great value and the rooms are superb. However, we still recommend Plantation Lodge as the preferred alternative or Gibbs farm if you’re looking to spend a bit more. But if everywhere else is full, the Kensington Endoro does very well as a last resort option and will make no difference to you stay in this area.
A brand spanking new, multi-faceted, lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands. It’s expansive, clean and luxurious. It’s by no means traditionally built but can very much serve a purpose if you’re looking for a place in that region. The surroundings are undoubtedly stunning and the backdrop of the coffee plantations are awe inspiring.
