Gold Resort Zanzibar

Zanzibar is an island famous for its excellent beaches, but none of them can touch the beach that sits in front of Gold Zanzibar.  The rooms, well-laid out and with good views of the beach and sea, are large but the decoration is slightly tasteless. The pool is enormous with great views.

Gold Resort Zanzibar - The Area

Kendwa beach is undoubtedly Zanzibar’s best. It is twice as wide as its nearest competitor and a beautiful coral white and most importantly non-tidal. For years there was a vacant plot of land waiting to be developed and in 2012 Gold Zanzibar took advantage of this trump card. The pool, although salt water, is enormous and blends nicely into the beach.

Gold Zanzibar Beach House & Spa Fact Sheet

The rooms, rising up the hill away from sea, are large but slightly bare and coloured a slightly off-putting gold. Each has a widescreen TV, balcony, very large double bed and a well-appointed bathroom. The luxury villas down on the beach are some of the least tasteful hotel rooms you will ever come across, but they are sitting right on the beach and each has its own private jacuzzi.

The service and food are fine, and the resort has a spa, fitness centre and a PADI dive centre. It even has great sunsets, a rarity on the island.

Gold Zanzibar - Reviews

The hotel resort was very lovely and well kept. As you mentioned, it was slightly less personable than a smaller boutique hotel, but it wasn't a problem. We were provided with a complementary sunset cruise and dinner at the a la carte restaurant as a gift for our honeymoon. This was a really lovely gesture from the manager that we appreciated. Also on arrival there was a delicious plate of fresh fruit and bottle of wine waiting in the room for us. The majority of the staff was very friendly and always greeted you with a smile. We also organized one excursion (the safari blue) while we were there, which we really enjoyed. We were also impressed that the staff did not bother the guests so we had a very quiet resort experience. The food at the hotel was so/so but, better than expected given the large buffet style. The only downside, which is not the fault of the hotel, is the hoard of locals on the beach that swarm you as you try to reach the water. It definitely prevented me from walking along the beach to enjoy to enjoy the beautiful views.
