This is a extremely reasonable and private island, perfect for relaxing post safari. It is such a shame however that the accommodations are split down the middle and therefore are in fact rather small. Knock the walls through and make the place private and intimate, just like the island....thats what we say! We will wait until they do as it is a great spot although rather offputting is its proximity to the busy harbour mouth of Zanzibar
Chapwani Island
Situated near Zanzibar, it has facilities to accommodate a maximum of twenty guests, having ten bedrooms in total, all with a stunning view of the white, coral beach.
These are situated in 5 separate bandas on the beach. Each room has its own terrace and lounge beds on the beach in front of the room. The rooms are simply furnished with a four poster bed, a mosquito net, ceiling fan, wardrobe and traditional Zanzibari writing desk. A banana leaf shutter closes the room from the light outside whilst letting through a fresh breeze. The only power on the island comes from a generator which is switched off at night so there is no air conditioning at night and rooms are illuminated by lanterns. Food on the island is served under a large Makuti roof. The menu is based around freshly caught sea food fusing both Italian and Zanzibari styles. The island is excellent for swimming and short excursions to nearby snorkelling sites can be arranged. The diving near Stone Town is excellent for inexperienced divers although advanced divers may find it slightly tame.
