Fumba Beach Lodge It is one of the newest of Zanzibars hotels and is located in a less frequented area of the island giving it a real sense of seclusion. Established last year and managed by Edwin, who has a background in running hotels all over Africa, the hotel has tried to change the traditional hotel arrangement on Zanzibar.
The main focus of the lay out is on the communal area which is made up of a beautiful old dhow which has been converted into a bar by the sea, a great infinity pool that smoothly mingles with the ocean behind it, and open air dining area and a large open sided bar for the rare day that it rains. As far as the rooms go, to the left of the main area are the 6 honeymoon rooms. Seperated by well placed palms and baobab trees, all of these rooms have private access to the beach and large open air showers and baths. To the right of the communal area are the standard rooms, or deluxe rooms cofusingly enough, which are ordered in two rows with garden views and sea views. With a new spa just installed, this is a great place to wind down after a safari or plane ride.
Fumba Beach Lodge – Tanzania Odyssey View
On the whole, this is a very good hotel with the Suites standing out as a very good option. The communal area for the hotel is really what makes it, and, while the rooms are all very clean and tidy, the only drawback for us is that, unless you are in one of the suites, the beach is pretty much non-existent. This is a small point and if you are happy swimming in the pool or the ocean, which is always in as the western coast is non tidal, then you will be happy. The only other point I would make is that the beach here is yellow and not the white sand on the other side of the island.
