Our ranking is subjective (it is the office consensus, after much arguing), and tries to reflect value for money as well as overall quality. Therefore we may award just three stars to a 'five star' Zanzibar Hotel in the hotel tick-box sense, or five stars to a superb, unashamed 'three star' Tanzania Lodge that consistently provides superb quality experiences for the price. We care a great deal about location, whether in the bush or on the beach, and in many cases this has influenced our choice. It is unorthodox, it may seem at odds with the world view, but we can explain... and we urge you to call us to discuss!
We don't just know Tanzania!

1 night at Lake Manze camp. The most colonial of our places. Simple but nice tents, a lovely elephant joining us for breakfast and a fantastic communal dinner under the stars. - K Spofforth
The Nomad Lamai was great. The game drives were really good and we saw just about everything possible including wildebeests crossing the river (all got over safely and the crocs were nowhere to be seen), mating ostriches, rhinos and even a leopard tortoise! - A Parker
Our View
Legendary Serengeti camp, is a mobile tented camp erected in close proximity to the migration, wherever that may be at any given time of the year. Driven by an endless search for food and water, the great herds of the migration and their attendant predators are constantly on the move.
Flying to the Serengeti was the best thing that we did, as there was another couple who drove the trip and it took them 11 hours. They looked really beat, even the next morning. Lemala camp was ok but the guide/driver there was useless. I guess our standards were high because of our first driver Daniel. - M Al-Natour
Our View
Having opened in October 2018 in the fabulous Serengeti National Park, Lemala's Nanyukie matches the same great standards of comfort and service as the other properties in Lemala's collection which also includes Kuria Hills in the Kogatende region of the Serengeti, Mpingo Ridge in Tarangire and Hamerkop House in Arusha.
Our View
Lemala is well located (though do not be fooled, the views are not into the Crater itself as the camp lies on the other side of the rim looking out into the Conservation area as opposed to into the Crater itself) and does have some game in the surrounding area. Overall it is a quality product and a welcome breath of fresh air around the Ngorongoro rim with it's nice authentic tents, and overall rustic luxury.
Our View
Lemala is a great product offering a good tented experience. Lemala Serengeti moves north and south with the migration and the camps have great locations. It's not Alex Walkers Serian but for the very reasonable price nor does it claim to be.
Our view
Lion’s Paw is everything you would want from a stay around the Ngorongoro Crater. With brilliant food, fabulous accommodation, and incredible views, it has got it all. Sometimes around the Ngorongoro Crater, hotels can be big and soulless, but here you get all the luxuries of a big operation, but with safari lodge level intimacy. Plus, the views from camp are to die for.
