Our ranking is subjective (it is the office consensus, after much arguing), and tries to reflect value for money as well as overall quality. Therefore we may award just three stars to a 'five star' Zanzibar Hotel in the hotel tick-box sense, or five stars to a superb, unashamed 'three star' Tanzania Lodge that consistently provides superb quality experiences for the price. We care a great deal about location, whether in the bush or on the beach, and in many cases this has influenced our choice. It is unorthodox, it may seem at odds with the world view, but we can explain... and we urge you to call us to discuss!

Kilindi was also a truly special spot on the gorgeous Indian Ocean. The 3 day safari followed by 4 days relaxing on the beach was just right. - E Bradford
This is a 5 star tented camp. This was the first of 6 different locations that we stayed at while on Safari. Kimondo Lamai Camp set the bar so high that no other place came close in service or food. If I ever do another Safari, this is the only place I will stay. - C. Henderson
The Mafia Island experience was also wonderful…very friendly hotel and dive centre, with great diving…. uncrowded and unspoiled. And we saw five or six whale sharks which was just the best thing...the big draw of the trip to Mafia.- J Deadman
We were met off the plane and had a game drive before we went to Kiota Camp. During our four days stay which you need, lost count of the number of lions we saw including a pride of 13, four tree climbing, an injured male with wire round his neck which had to be sedated with its female, by rangers and vet, and a family with a kill. The herds of elephant, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and wilderbeast were huge. We also saw five leopards and three cheetahs. One with her cub got down from her rock and walked in front of our vehicle. Best of all our driver Raymond after another early start took us to see the migration.
It was completely unimagineable. Best of all they all got across the river.
Kiota camp was great staff, wonderful food, fantastic game drives. We could hear lions every night and sometimes in the morning at breakfast. Also zebras and hyenas right outside our tent. What more could you ask for? - D & K Oates
Our View
The lodge has an excellent view of the Great Rift Valley from many of the rooms and the bar area. We think this is a good option for those who are lovers of a great view and a slightly bigger lodge style.
Our View
Kirurumu Ngorongoro is a stunning tented camp situated on rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, boasting sensational views. It is a very intimate camp in a true safari style, a far cry from the large, faceless chains that are also present on the rim. Great views, great guides and great value!
The camp at the Serengeti ( Kirurumu) was a real experience. We loved being out in nature and hearing the calls of the local animals, including the resident lions! The staff was great and having laundry service was a big help. Emanuel was an amazing guide who really added to the experience. We even spent a day driving north and caught part of the migration! We saw the big 5 which was a real treat, as well as many lions! Visiting the Serengeti was a trip of a lifetime.- C. Kaminker
A brand spanking new, multi-faceted, lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands. It’s expansive, clean and luxurious. It’s by no means traditionally built but can very much serve a purpose if you’re looking for a place in that region. The surroundings are undoubtedly stunning and the backdrop of the coffee plantations are awe inspiring.
