This page is a comprehensive list of all the Tanzania lodges and Zanzibar hotels featured on this website.
It is very hard to rank lodges with one simple measure! But we have tried, and herewith an explanation of our system.
Our ranking is subjective (it is the office consensus, after much arguing), and tries to reflect value for money as well as overall quality. Therefore we may award just three stars to a 'five star' Zanzibar Hotel in the hotel tick-box sense, or five stars to a superb, unashamed 'three star' Tanzania Lodge that consistently provides superb quality experiences for the price. We care a great deal about location, whether in the bush or on the beach, and in many cases this has influenced our choice. It is unorthodox, it may seem at odds with the world view, but we can explain... and we urge you to call us to discuss!
For more information on Tanzania, the best thing to do is to give us a ring for an impartial chat. Although we love Tanzania, we also love the rest of Africa too and have experts in all the main safari countries. If you are undecided as to where to visit, please do just drop us an email or give us a call!

Mivumo River Lodge - Selous
The whole staff team at Mivumo were so friendly and helpful and arranged fabulous memorable moments such arranging a pop up bar on the river bank so we could watch the sunset over the river gin and tonic in hand! The food was delicious- fresh, tasty and perfectly cooked and we even had breakfast by the river in the last morning watching the baboons, hippos and crocodiles.

Mnemba Island - Zanzibar Islands
Mnemba despite the astronomical price was incredible, one of the most beautiful places we’ve been and with brilliant food and service, our butler Rajab was brilliant, we absolutely loved it and would love to go back. Probably in about 20 years when we’ve saved up enough again. - R. Cohen

Moivaro Coffee Estate - Arusha
With quite a range of lodges and small hotels to choose from these days in and around Arusha, this lodge stands out as being a good choice. With good service and clean, airy rooms the lodge is well managed. It has a good sized pool for those who may have come off Kilimanjaro, otherwise ideal for a quick dip in the afternoon after arriving from anywhere else. A good option for those looking for a quiet and charming stoop over point on their way through. Excellent for families, but if you are looking for small intimate place, look elsewhere.
Cost: $120
Mwagusi Safari Camp - Ruaha
Mwagusi (Ruhaha Park) : we really enjoyed Ruhaha and the lodge. As promised, Mwagusi is amazing, the games drives were excellent – we had wonderful guides and driver (Isaac and Vicent) – and we brought back beautiful pictures - Challe

Mwiba Lodge - Serengeti, Mobile
Mwiba lodge was simply fantastic. While it is very expensive, it is worth every penny. The rooms or should I say cottages were spacious and very private. The bed was comfortable and large making for sound sleeping. Large sitting area inside as well as a very large balcony with nice views of the stream and countryside added so much comfort and enjoyment.
The food was exceptional. The variety offered at each meal was impressive and the quality was worthy of a Michelin starred restaurant. Three or four entrees at each meal with many side dishes and starters, desserts and soups would satisfy the most discerning and demanding palate.
The game drives were the best. Zeke and Charles were focused on providing us with the best safari experience. The first afternoon out they spotted a huge leopard napping in a tree. I was no more than 30 feet from the female capturing beautiful pictures. The MWIBA private game preserve is incredible. We saw no other vehicles in the bush over the three days there, and we covered a lot of terrain. Also, we could remain in the bush well into the evening hours, when the predators become more active. Also, we were near enough to travel well into the plains to view the great migration. What a unique and awesome experience that was along with watching lions lying in wait for their next meal.
Most memorable was the morning they took us on a walking safari. We encountered a tribe of bushmen (and women) hunting and foraging. We spent several hours following them in their daily routine, shooting smaller animals (birds and bush babies) and cooking them on the spot and smoking bees out to retrieve their honeycombs. The bush people were so skilled, happy and gregarious, Joanne and I were astonished. MWIBA topped off this experience with a breakfast in the bush that was fit for a king with the chef presenting omlettes and all the usual fixings of a full English breakfast.
I could go on and on, but I thinks this captures the essence of Mwiba. An unforgettable experience. It should be a required visit for those seeking the ultimate in safari experiences.

Nasikia Migration Camp - Serengeti, Mobile
Our View
Nasikia’s migration camp is a no-frills, mobile camp that takes up two of the prime locations in order to catch the best of the wildebeest migration. Whilst the camp does not offer any opulence, it does what it says on the tin and offers a perfect base in which to explore the Serengeti’s best spots for catching the thundering herds of wildebeest as they run the gauntlet of crossing the Mara River, or whilst thousands of calves are born on the short, grassy plains.Cost: $535
Ndovu Camp - Tarangire
Our View
Tarangire is the most under-appreciated parks in Northern Tanzania. Ndovu Camp is located deep into the park and provides and excellent value, luxury safari option where guests can enjoy excellent game viewing and the comforts of a great lodge. With most guests only visiting the very Northern reaches of the park, staying closer to the central regions, away from these areas, is key to getting the best out of Tarangire.Cost: $500
Nduara Loliondo - Serengeti, Loliondo
Nduara Loliondo is run by Nomad Tanzania who have camps and lodges all over Tanzania. This is one of their less commercial products; located outside the Serengeti Border in the Loliondo area, where you get game and also a cultural aspect - this is the land of the Masaai. We love the style of ‘yurt’ tents and opportunity to take long walking safaris in the wilderness.
Cost: $845
Ndutu Lodge - Serengeti, South
Our View
We really like Ndutu Lodge for two reasons, its location and its simplicity; ok this place is not going to blow you away but from the December to March time when the herds are in this area its is the best value permanent lodge in the whole area. For this reason, especially in February time this lodge gets very booked up. This is a ‘drive in’ lodge which requires to bring your own vehicle and guide from Arusha which also means that this lodge can get booked up by the mass market safari companies.Cost: $700
